On Saturday night of August 9, from 8pm to 11pm, join hostess Ivy Doomkitty for the first ever Boston Comic Con Cosplay Harbor Cruise! This event is strictly for BCC attendees and cosplayers 21 years of age and older. There will be a DJ, cash bar, and a whole bunch of fun on board as we cruise around Boston Harbor Saturday night partying like, well, like superheroes of course.

The boat docks right outside our front door at the Seaport World Trade Center, so spill on out of the show at the end of the day, and cruise into the night. Tickets are $60. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Click here to purchase tickets. 'Nuff said.

Comic Art Auction at the BCC!

On Sunday August 10 at 2pm in the Federal Complex, the Boston Comic Con is hosting a public comic book original art auction at this year's show. This is your chance to own a piece of original art from some of the most notable comic book artists in the industry.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Mike Wieringo Scholarship for aspiring comic book artists. This scholarship was established in memory of comic book artist Mike Wieringo for aspiring comic book artists studying sequential art at the Savannah College of Art and Design who can demonstrate not only the talent but the financial need. The scholarship recipient is chosen by a panel of comic book art professionals and close friends of Mike Wieringo.

BCC to Host 2nd Annual Costume Parade at Fanueil Hall Marketplace!

Boston Comic Con, Dick’s Last Resort, Newbury Comics, and Faneuil Hall Marketplace are teaming up for the 2nd annual pre-convention Boston Comic Con Costume Contest. The contest is open to the public and will feature a costume parade around Faneuil Hall Marketplace from 11:45am to 1pm.

Contestants of all ages are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Superhero, comic book character, and beyond (all costumes should be family friendly). The contest, hosted by cosplay star Pat Covey, will kick off with a Costume Parade around Quincy Market, beginning and ending at Dick’s Last Resort. The Parade will also feature cosplayers Bellechere and Destiny Nickelsen.

1st place winner will receive two VIP passes to the three day Boston Comic Con and a limited-edition T-shirt. 2nd place winner will walk away with a $100 gift certificate to Dick’s Last Resort. 3rd place winner will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to Newbury Comics.Costume contestants should arrive at Dick’s Last Resort at 11:45am to check in and register. The parade will begin at 12:15pm. Final winners will be announced at 12:45pm.

Marvel Portfolio Reviews with CB Cebulski!

Attention, artists! Grab your best work and put your portfolio together because Marvel editor CB Cebulski, who has worked on titles including X-Men, Avengers, and Spider-Man, will be on hand to do portfolio reviews at Boston Comic Con 2014!

This is a rare opportunity to sit down with Marvel's top talent scout and show off your talents. Applicants are asked to submit their work (photocopies only, please!) at the Boston Comic Con information booth all day Friday and Saturday. Those chosen for review will be directed to appear for one-on-one reviews on Friday and Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning.

Some important pointers: Bring sequential pages to demonstrate your storytelling ability. Make sure to have photocopies of your work to submit. Your most recent work will give the best impression of your skills.

Boston Comic Con After Party with Laugh Boston!

Come be a part of Boston Comic Con's official after party: Crisis on Improv-inate Earths! The party starts on Saturday August 9 at midnight (after Deadpool writer Brian Posehn's show*), and goes until 2am. Costumes are encouraged, but not required.

Hosted by Laugh Boston, some of Improv Asylum's funniest actors take the stage for a wildly paced comic con-themed improv show with scenes inspired by audience suggestions. Content not approved by the Comics Code Authority.

Registration Form

Contest Rules
  • Each entrant must have a badge or wrist band to this year's Boston Comic Con.
  • Each entrant must adhere to costume and prop policies.
  • Entry for this year's event will take place from open of the show Friday until Saturday night, or until cap is filled. No entrants will be allowed once registration ends.
  • Pre-registration will be capped at 40 entrants for this year’s event. Those who pre-register must check in Friday or Saturday at the contest registration table located on the convention floor.
  • All costumes must be at least 50% handmade OR altered. Commissioned costumes will be allowed if the creator is present. All other store bought or commissioned costumes may only enter the walk on portion. (NOTE: Our judges will decide if costumes are at least 50% handmade or altered)
  • Cap for this year's event will be 80 entrants, with a cap of 20 for youth entrants (ages 13-17), and 20 for groups/duos.
  • Each entrant must fill out the contest registration to guarantee his/her spot in the event. Please remember when filling this out that the organizer and emcee must be able to read the handwriting.

Divisions
  • Masters: Entrants in this division have won best in show, or placed in multiple "Top 3" in a past contests at conventions
  • Journeyman: Entrants in this division have entered contests in the past, and haven't won best in show
  • Novice: Entrants in this division have never entered a costume contest before
  • Youth: Entrants in this are between the ages of 13 and 17 years old
  • Walk-On: Those who were unable to enter the event, but want to showcase their costume (Those wanting to partake in the walk-on portion register separately and will not be pre-judged. Walk-on participants will also only be eligible for prizes in the walk-on category.)
  • NOTE: Entrants may be moved to different divisions.

Walk-On Judging
  • Entrants in the Walk-on portion will have a maximum of 10 seconds on stage. Winners in this category will be based on applause, so entertain the audience! Once the walk-on portion has finished, winners will be announced.
Contest Information
  • Entrants are asked to arrive at the Seaport Grand Ballroom (located in the hotel) one (1) hour before the contest begins. Failure to arrive on time can result in disqualification from the contest!
  • Only entrants will be allowed into the event at this time. Anyone additional must be given the OK by contest organizer.
  • At this time, the organizer will introduce emcee, judges, and give any additional instructions.
  • Entrants will be introduced on stage by the emcee, who will announce their name, character, and where the character is from.
  • Contestants will have a maximum of one (1) minute on the stage. Groups will be allotted more time. (NOTE: You do not need to provide music or CDs for this.)
  • Once the last contestant had exited the stage, the judges will deliberate and the walk-on portion will begin during this time.

Judging
  • Entrants will be judged on a point scale by the judges on three criteria
  • Craftsmanship: How the entrant made their costume, use of materials, and creativity
  • Likeness: How closely the entrant resembles the character he or she is cosplaying
  • Presentation: How the entrant portrays themselves as the character they are cosplaying. Presentation is based on portrayal of the character on stage.
  • Entrants will be pre-judged Sunday at the Grand Ballroom at the Seaport Hotel and allowed a maximum of two (2) minutes with the judges. At this time, they’ll be judging you on craftsmanship and likeness.
  • Surprise the audience and judges, but don't surprise the organizer. If there is anything you want to do to captivate the audience and/or judges, please ask the contest organizer before doing it. Failure to do so can result in your disqualification.
  • Remember: Be in character and have fun!
  • Judges' decisions are final!

  • This year's BCC Annual Costume Contest, hosted by Ivy Doom Kitty, will take place in the Harborview Ball Room on Sunday August 10 at 4pm.
